A view showing the river from the glacier flowing into the fjord.                              Air Base Service Club
Ed writes, "Now Joe Hertzog was an AVID fisher-
man. He would go fishing every chance he had.
Since the days were almost 24 hours, we would
take Joe to the river near the base of the
glacier to fish just about every day."
"The Artic Char would swim up the river to the
glacier to spawn. Standing on the bank of the
river and looking into the water, the Char were
so thick that it looked like a handfull of tooth-
picks in a glass of water. Even though there
were plenty, they were hard to catch. But we
would get lucky once in awhile."
The photo in upper left shows Hertzog standing
in the river that Ed writes about. The photo in
the center has from left, Dean,  ?  , Hertzog
with a nice catch.
In this view above, the crew is having a fish fry in the barracks. From left,  ?  , Rizzo, Dean, Hertzog using the splicers
furnace to fry the fish and Dan Zimmer.
