View of Placentia with the hospital on the far left with the smoke coming out of the chimney. To the right side of this
photograph is the Royal Bank of Canada with the ORCAN theater building just beyound. Thanks to John Whelan for
pointing out these buildings to me. John mentioned that the theater had been converted to apartments for officers and
senior enlisted men of the USAF. The marquee is still on the building in this photograph.
June 12,2004, Jacquelyn Wakeham E-mailed me about some buildings in this photograph that were tied to her family.
The white building directly on the water, it has six windows facing the water, was the saw mill owned by her
grandfather and his brothers. The large yellow building behind that, with the steep black roof, was originally a hotel.
The Wakeham's bought it and lived in it as apartments until they built their own houses right next door. The yellow
house just left of the saw mill is Bill Wakeham's house and it looks the same today.
Just down the road from the bank, the large yellow house with dark trim and bay windows is the magistrate's house.
This house is now a historic site.
View across the gut towards Jerseyside from Placentia
The last two photos above are from two slides that I merge together with our Adobe Photoshop Elements.
View towards Castle Hill. Jerseyside is on the left. From the right we can make out the railroad coming into Jerseyside
from Placentia Junction. On one of our hikes to Placentia we followed the railroad back to McAndrew AFB.
Placentia Junction is to the right just out
of sight. Headed to the left in the back-
ground is the track to Argentia and
McAndrew AFB.
View of a snow fence along the track just
outside of Jerseyside. You can make out
this fence in the view above of Castle Hill.
Scharnweber and George Merritt checking
out an old relic at Placentia.
In 2004 John Whelan sent me this photo of
the cannon from the preceeding photo as it
looks today after being restored. That is John
standing beside it. John contributed
numerous facts on the photos I have posted
on this web site pertaining to McAndrew
AFB and Placentia. We never met in person
but in numerous emails back and forth we
became friends. I even had a pleasant
surprise one day when he called me on the
telephone. John passed away Nov.28, 2005.
